Who is that Erik anyway?
Erik Sellström | Author | World-builder | Storyteller
Hi, I’m Erik Sellström—an indie author and publisher aspiring to become a decent storyteller. Growing up on a steady diet of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Black Adder, The Young Ones, and far too many hours logged in games where I genuinely worried about the feelings of background characters. I’ve always been drawn to stories that find the absurd in the mundane and the profound in the ridiculous.
When I’m not crafting tales of dystopian science-fantasy futures or wondering if my houseplants have achieved sentience, I’m outdoors, working in communications (yes, the irony of an author doing corporate communications is not lost on me), or spending time with my family and our ever-enthusiastic dogs—who remain blissfully unaware they’re NPCs in the grand MMORPG of life.
My Writing Journey
Like most writers, I’ve got a graveyard of abandoned projects—sketch comedy scripts, stage plays, short stories, and yes, the obligatory drawer full of unfinished novels that shall remain nameless (and unread). But lately, I’ve found my groove with two very different worlds.
First, there’s The Gate—my serious science-fantasy playground. It’s a sprawling megacity where dystopia meets ancient mysteries, and I’ve published three short stories there so far:
- Fragments of Light – An artist gets dangerously obsessed with visions he can’t stop painting
- The Auction – Freelancer Ash Trevino chases a mysterious Old World artifact through chaos
- The Fallout – Ash’s sequel adventure where everything goes sideways (as sequels should)
I’m also developing Threads of The Weaver, an epic web serial that ties all the Gate stories together. Still figuring out the when and where of that release—turns out publishing schedules are harder than writing the actual stories.
Then there’s my completely different obsession: NPCs Anonymous, a daily serial about self-aware video game characters attending group therapy. Because apparently, I worry about the emotional well-being of background characters. Who knew that was a marketable skill?
Why I Write
For me, storytelling is equal parts magic and controlled chaos. I love creating worlds that invite readers to explore, wonder, and maybe care about fictional characters they’ll never meet. My goal is simple: entertain people, spark imagination, and have way too much fun doing it. Someday, I hope this beautiful obsession becomes my full-time gig.
Where to keep up
This site is home base, but I’m also wandering around the internet in various forms. Drop me a line through my contact page, follow the irregular chaos on Instagram, or subscribe to my newsletter where I share writing updates, book promotions, random thoughts about NPCs, and probably too many photos of my dogs being confused by technology.
Cheers!
